When you need it
Signs your books need a catch-up
- Several months of transactions have never been categorized
- Your accounting file does not match your bank statements
- You are changing bookkeepers or accounting software
What a cleanup covers
Once the backlog is cleared, most clients move to monthly bookkeeping so it does not build up again.
Categorizing the backlog
Past transactions are sorted into consistent accounts, with questions flagged for you.
Reconciling each account
Every account is matched to its statements month by month so balances can be trusted.
Fixing what is out of place
Duplicates, miscoded entries and uncleared items are corrected and noted.
How a cleanup works
We review what exists
We look at your current file and statements to see how large the job is before quoting.
We work oldest to newest
Starting at the earliest month keeps opening balances right and avoids chasing errors forward.
You get a closing summary
We hand back reconciled books and a list of any items we could not resolve without your documents.
What this service does and does not cover
Cleanup depends on having your statements and records. If documents are missing we will tell you which ones, but we cannot recreate records that do not exist. Cleanup is bookkeeping only: it does not include filing late tax returns, negotiating with tax agencies or legal advice.

Catch-Up & Cleanup FAQs
How far back can you go?
That depends on the records available. We quote after we see how many months and accounts are involved and which statements you can get from your bank or card issuer.
What if I lost some statements?
Most banks and card companies let you download past statements from your online account. If something truly cannot be found, we document the gap and tell you plainly rather than guess.
Should my CPA review the cleaned-up books?
It is a good idea, particularly if the cleanup spans a tax year that is already filed. We can prepare a summary of what changed for your tax preparer to review.
